Naperville Historic District
Slow down. Stroll back into a simpler time, to an era of front porch swings, stately shade trees, and unhurried chats with friendly neighbors. Welcome to Naperville’s Historic District, a neighborhood with 613 vintage buildings that represent the city as it was originally meant to be. First established as a single farm on the DuPage River in 1830, Naperville became a flourishing heartland town in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Today, many of the historic structures remain, reflecting diverse architectural styles and early American character. Visit the Naperville Historic District and stroll past ornate Victorians, classic Cape Cod homes, and sturdy American Four Squares. With immense cultural value, this special neighborhood is a showcase of Naperville’s architecture and heritage. Some of the structures that particularly highlight the area’s distinct history include:
  • General Store (1847-9)
  • North Central College (1870)
  • Nichols Library (1898)
  • Willard Scott, Jr. House (1887)
  • Paw Paw Station (1833)
  • First Congregational Church (1905)
  • Kreger Family House (1860)
  • Kroehler Manufacturing Company (1905)
You’ll find a map of the neighborhood online that features highlighted properties. Maps can also be purchased at the Naper Settlement Museum.
